COMPETITORS CHOSEN FOR SOUTHPORT'S BRITISH MUSICAL FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006

July 2006

Six of the best firework display teams in the country will be competing for the Pleasureland British Musical Fireworks Championships.

The annual event has become a popular favourite with residents and visitors in the last few years and it also generates significant business for shops, restaurants, bars and hotels.

Head of Tourism for Sefton Council, Tony Corfield, said: "I am delighted that Pleasureland has come on board to become title sponsor for the 2006 event. We have had a very good relationship with them when they have supported other events in the past. It is also great news that the fireworks championships are being held in such high esteem.

"The draw for September looks like it will deliver a very exciting competition with the specialists doing their very best to blow away their rivals."

The event takes place from September 22-24 with two companies competing each night. The competitors are:

Friday, September 22. Westcoast Firework, Pembrokshire, (current champions) and Skyburst The Firework Co - Bristol.

Saturday, September 23. Pyroartistry - Broughton in Furness, Cumbria, and Festival Fireworks UK Ltd - Lewes, Sussex.

Sunday, September 24. Highlight Pyrotechnics Limited - Runcorn, and Axholme Fireworks - Scunthorpe.
