Will Pembrokeshire Waterway Go Ahead?

The TOTAL Champion of Champions Pembrokeshire Waterway Firework Competition was so successful in 2007 that there was talk of its becoming the future European Firework Championships. It was held over two days in late September on the Milford Haven Waterway, and enjoyed by 20,000 spectators.

Numerous plaudits from people outside Pembrokeshire were received. Local people felt that this event has brought neighbouring communities closer together, and in many cases it was the perfect excuse for a street party. Therefore the committee has already started planning and fund-raising for the 2008 event, which is to take place on 26 -27 September. Many small businesses in the area and local town councils are very supportive of the event; however even with their support, a major sponsor is needed so that the event can take place, and the main 2007 sponsor, TOTAL (under new ownership), have decided not to support the event this year.

The event is organised by a committee of representatives of the local communities, chaired by Councillor Sue Perkins, and supported by PLANED through the Experience Pembrokeshire’s Waterway project. The project is supported by EU LEADER+ and part-funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Potential sponsors, large and small, should contact Kate of PLANED on kated@planed.org.uk (01834 862109).
